Ginger Software Review 2020

It is no doubt that English is the most common language to flat the world now. However, it is can be the toughest thing to learn and write, especially for the Second Language speaking people – like me. We all know that communication properly is the main key to success. Writing with lots of grammar mistakes can make you silly, both online or offline.

For example, isn’t it awkward if the employer receives your full of error CV? Although you excel in your field, who wants to recruit an employee not good at written expression? It is more important if you are an online seller/blogger. Every article must be addressed fluently and correctly in grammar to make sure messages convincingly reached target readers.

If you’ve ever seen yourself, using an online language enhancement tool before submitting your writing will be a great solution. Nowadays, there are a lot of well-known language checker tools to help users correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes instantly.

After doing a lot of research on the Internet, I chose Ginger Software to make my writing easier. This software, for me, can be rated 4 out of 5, overall. Before starting the Ginger Software review, let’s unveil the story behind and its brief information.

Ginger Software Editing Review 2020

History of Ginger

Back in 2007, Ginger Software was developed by a couple – Yael Karov and Avner Zangvil. This Israel company built up different apps to deal with writing enhancement based on algorithms. They focused on language enhancement appliances with the ambition to develop writing communication and mobile productivity.

So far, Ginger Software is one of three top spelling and grammar checker software over the world. Not only non-native English speakers but also the natives can benefit from this app to improve their writing skills.

In this article, we are going to review the pros and cons across every aspect of Ginger Software, from its features, integrations, prices and my personal experience with it.

Ginger Signup and Setup

Compare to another grammar app I used before (Grammarly), Ginger Software is not user friendly at the beginning. Once accessing the Ginger home, you will see a button to add Ginger to your browser (It’s quite inconvenient as I cannot use it directly online). Then, click to download the extension, open and now you can install it.

After that, you will be asked to create an account. Sign up by entering your email, password, and Ginger is ready to use.

Ginger Software Review: Pros and Cons

Every time you choose a writing enhancement tool, please keep in mind with specific software checking needs, strengths, and weaknesses.

Below is my opinion about Ginger Software Pros and Cons

1Pro #1:  FeaturesGinger Software concentrates on grammar and spelling checks. Those two categories are the most mistakes suffered by a lot of people. Therefore, the app will suggest for users promptly rectify so they can save time on editing. Also, let’s see great features from Ginger Software in brief:

  • Proofreading – This app will check your sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and punctuation to make sure everything accurate. It can scan through content automatically, highlight blue color at mistakes. Then, you need to hang your mouse on the highlighted word and choose the suggested correction for approval.
  • Rephrasing – It suggests a further clarification and tailors your text style. What is greater than expressing yourself by just using Ginger Software “other ways to say it” option.
  • Translation – Software strikes to translate more than 50 different languages at this moment. Now you write in your favorite language, use a helpful translator to bring the text to English or any other supported language by the app. Ginger can auto-detect the original language and provide the English translation in the nearby box.
  • Dictionary – Even a native English speaker doesn’t know all the world. Prevail your writing game by easy one-click access to synonyms and definitions. It will expand your linguistic world and help to improve your understanding and your writing skills.
  • Text-to-Speech – Who is learning English as a foreign language will love this feature. By using the latest cutting-edge technology, Ginger Software provides you a proper pronunciation and accent of a native American or English speaker. Practicing speaking and listening skill is now pretty faster and more efficient.  However, this feature is only available for premium members which means the extra fee is required.
Con #1: Features

  • Proofreading:

Having to said that Ginger Software highlighted all the mistakes in one color, unlike other grammar checker tools (for the Grammarly, grammar and spelling check are told apart by green and red color). Therefore, you have to hover over the word to check what the exact problem is.

Ginger Software Proofreading

  • Lack of plagiarism checker.

Plagiarism check is a need for writers who dig up a lot of information from different sources (both online and offline). Sometimes you accidentally plagiarize when to paraphrase ideas from the Internet, so equip yourself with it helps to avoid “illegal” copy.

  • Slow Speed:

With Grammarly, the document is checked line by line and stop at any mistakes found. On the other hand, Ginger Software checks the whole document which is very low and shows users a list of errors later.

2Pro #2: Language Support & TranslationGinger Software supports 2 languages:

  • English
  • Dutch

Regarding Translation – Ginger Software strikes to translate more than 50 different languages at this moment. Now you write in your favorite language, use a helpful translator to bring the text to English or any other supported language by the app. Ginger can auto-detect the original language and provide the English translation in the nearby box.

Con #2: Low-quality translation. I tested by translating from English to my mother tongue language but the result didn’t look great.  It is something more like Google Translate. Please pay attention if you pretend to use this function.

3Pro #3: Mobile Support Ginger Software is well defined for desktops and mobile devices. However, it takes the advantages of mobile, especially devices powered by Android, in comparison with other same tools. Its keyboard app is also packed with a dictionary, translator, and thesaurus which help to write an error-free message on your phoneCon #3: This software doesn’t work offline. Make sure you have internet connection if you would like to have your document checks on the go.
4Pro #4: IntegrationsGinger Software works on several platforms, including Mac, Microsoft. Even though you are using a free subscription plan, it also performs great on different browsers like Safari and Chrome. Therefore, you are well assisted with spelling and grammar checkers, no matter you are writing a Facebook post, update on Tweet or draft an email.Pro #4:Ginder Software is not available for Firefox yet.

Ginger Software Pricing:

Is Ginger Software worth it?

In conclusion, Ginger Software owns its reputation as a good grammar checker, allows users to write in more than 60 different languages besides English. Thanks to its handy dictionary, non-native English speakers can now improve their writing proficiency promptly. With a competitive price, this software can be a good option for everyone.

However, it is required to have a better report with itemized mistakes function. Compared to its biggest competitor (Grammarly) who covers these writing issues more in-depth, Ginger Software should put more attention in this field to well adapt users’ needs.

In the same manner, Ginger Software has a quite poor customer service. It has only the FAQ section and a contact form support. It also takes full advantage of a mobile support platform, users friendly on Windows, Mac and mobile devices run on Android and iOS.

With the above listing points, I personally think that Ginger Software still worths the money, but still depends on your real requirement.
